Falconer moves to the Home Office

Planning minister Lord Falconer has moved to the Home Office following the resignation of DTLR secretary Stephen Byers.

Home secretary David Blunkett revealed details of a reshuffle in his department this morning.

Lord Falconer of Thoroton, currently in charge of planning, housing and the Dome at the DTLR, will become Home Office minister in charge of criminal justice.

Falconer, a qualified QC, has been leading the government’s reforms to the planning system and is expected to make an announcement this week confirming the sale of the Dome to Meridian Delta.

Downing Street would not confirm the announcement, and it is not known who will take Falconer’s position at the DTLR.
