A family feud worthy of Macbeth has erupted over plans to build a banqueting venue at Cawdor Castle.
The Scottish family seat has been the subject of an acrimonious dispute since Hugh John Vaughan Campbell, the sixth Earl Cawdor, left the 15th-century castle to his Czech-born second wife, Angelika, rather than his eldest son, Colin, the seventh earl, in 1993.
The Duchess of Cawdor has now submitted plans for an events, exhibition and banqueting venue in the castle’s 18th century garden.
Her stepson has now lodged an appeal, saying the proposal is “poorly conceived and badly sited: overblown in its proportions; pretentious in its appearance and out of keeping with the castle’s character and setting”, with an “unwelcome element of fakery and artifice”.
