Carnforth railway station in Lancashire, the setting for the film Brief Encounter, is to be restored by Railtrack to include a museum, cinema and themed restaurant.
A short list of at least three consortia has been drawn up for the redevelopment and Railtrack says it is in the final stages of selecting the winner. The plans already have the backing of the local council and work is expected to begin early next year.
