Fanning plans Canterbury scheme

Tom Fanning, the former development director at London & Regional who left to set up his own company, has won his first big project.

His company, Candlewood House, has won the contest to develop a £30m, 23,225m2 (250,000 sq ft) leisure scheme in Canterbury, to be funded by London & Regional.

The site, called Kingsmead, is currently Canterbury Football Club’s ground and is owned by the council, which will sell the 6.47ha (16 acres) to Candlewood. Fanning’s company will relocate the football club when the council identifies a new site.

Fanning’s scheme will include a Warners 10-screen multiplex, hotel, tennis centre and riverside restaurants and bars. Leslie Furness is the agent. Kier and a Sainsbury’s/Castle City joint venture were the underbidders.
