Fans propose ‘Football Quarter’ for Liverpool

Ambitious plans for the regeneration of North Liverpool have been put forward by a collective of fans of the city’s two Premier League football clubs.

Liverpool FC and Everton FC supporters groups have begun a campaign to attracting developers to more than 40 acres of land to create “The Football Quarter” as a tourist destination.

The concept is designed to transform the area of Liverpool that is home to Anfield and Goodison Park –one of the most deprived areas in the UK – into an educational, community, recreational, leisure and retail hub around the stadiums.

The All Together Now programme was launched this morning at the Museum of Liverpool. The event was chaired by radio presenter Liam Fogarty.
City MP Steve Rotheram and The Farm singer Peter Hooton were among the speakers backing plans for The Football Quarter. Liverpool City Council leader Joe Anderson has also given his support to the proposals.

MPs for the area, Steve Rotheram and Joe Benton said: “The areas around Anfield and Goodison Park are recognised as among the most deprived in the UK, while at the same time, the communities there are characterised by their unique spirit, tenacity, warmth and entrepreneurial potential.

“We have a collective duty to ensure that the areas in the vicinity of both Anfield and Goodison Park capitalise on the regeneration potential and reflect the world-renowned status of both clubs.”
