Farringdon’s first smart building plans take shape

Helical and AshbyCapital have outlined plans to make its Farringdon office space development, 33 Charterhouse Street, EC1, the first smart building in the area.

The 200,000 sq ft office, construction for which started in early 2020, will be installed with technology which will create a digital twin of the building, provide tenants with an engagement app, and help ensure the building is safe post-Covid-19.

The technology, provided by Smart Spaces, will help tenants ensure touch-free lift access and lighting controls, desk and meeting room booking, anonymous social distancing monitoring and energy footprint per employee data.

Construction of 33 Charterhouse Street is earmarked for completion in summer 2022.

Dan Drogman, chief executive officer at Smart Spaces, said: “We are working in a time when buildings need ‘tangible’ cutting edge technology to satisfy customer expectations. 33 Charterhouse Street will set a new benchmark within this dynamic area of London.

“Creating an environment that will inspire and engage creative and tech industry workers who are native to the new way of working, while focusing on safety and employee wellbeing, will be paramount to remaining competitive. Our technology has the ability to support the delivery of an operationally advanced and environmentally conscious office.”
