Fears UK car plants could ‘fall by wayside’

Peugeot’s Ryton car plant and Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant face an uncertain future as production shifts to new factories in low-cost countries, reports The Guardian.

The report says they are not under immediate threat of closure but both of their parent groups are trying to offset the extra costs of building new cars in western Europe by raising productivity or moving east.

It is feared both plants could fall by the wayside.
