Federated Hermes boosts real estate team with new hire

Investment management firm Federated Hermes has appointed Mark Russell as head of fund management.

In the newly-created role, effective from 19 February, Russell will be responsible for driving strategy and performance delivery of the firm’s real estate business and its investments within the Federated Hermes private markets platform.

He will be based in London where he will report to Chris Taylor, head of real estate.

Russell joins the company from Orchard Street IM where he was a partner.

Prior to this he was a senior fund manager at Legal & General Investment Management. At L&G Russell led the Managed Property Fund through a period of expansion and oversaw over £2.5bn of transactions in the UK market.

Before joining L&G, Russell was a portfolio manager at Prestbury Investment Holdings, and he started his career in commercial real estate at Jones Lang Wootton. He brings 25 years of experience across private practice advisory and institutional real estate fund management.

Taylor said Russell’s “extensive experience complements the capabilities of our existing established team, and will enhance the ongoing delivery of our client focussed strategy”.
