Some 21% of delegates at this year’s BCO conference in Berlin are female, up from an average of 4% in recent years.
It is a fitting statistic given the theme for this year’s event is Diversity and Inclusivity.
“You may not think 21% sounds very much,” said conference chair and BCO senior vice president Katrina Kostic Samen in her opening address to more than 700 delegates. “But this is such an improvement on previous years.”
This year’s conference, which has a strong focus on smart buildings, tech and innovation, has also adopted a more informal approach.
There is no dress code apart from a suggestion not to wear suits or business attire at evening events and the annual sit down conference dinner will be replaced by a warehouse party at Westhafen Docks.
