Fenwicks in talks for Leeds store at Harewood Quarter

Town Centre Securities (TCS) is tipped to be in negotiations with upmarket department store retailer Fenwicks for the anchor unit of its proposed 24,154 sq m (260,000 sq ft) Harewood Quarter in Leeds.

Design guru Sir Terence Conran is also understood to be considering the scheme for his first hotel.

The development, which is due to get the final go-ahead from Leeds council imminently, will be built on a site behind the Victoria Quarter on Union Street. The Victoria Quarter is set for major refurbishment following its purchase by Paul Sykes.

If all goes to schedule, work on site should begin in the autumn of 2002 with completion due for summer 2004. The Harewood Quarter will comprise 12,077m sq (130,000 sq ft) of retail space on two storeys, a 90-bedroom hotel and 70 residential units.

Orme Prime Retail and Glasgows Hamilton Glen will be joint agents on the scheme.
