Final piece in Sheffield’s Park Hill regeneration gets the go-ahead

Sheffield City Council’s planning committee has approved the next phase of the regeneration of Park Hill. The proposals were put forward by Urban Splash alongside Places for People in May. The partners have worked together on the redevelopment of Park Hill since 2013. The fifth phase of works, designed by Mikhail Riches, features 105 one- to four-bedroom homes alongside 2,153 sq ft of commercial space and a car park.  Transformation of Europe’s largest listed building began in 2006, with the grant of outline planning permission to turn the 1957-61 social housing scheme into modern homes. The block, which occupies a 32-acre site on Talbot Street, originally contained around 1,000 flats. The first phase has delivered 260 homes alongside 32,292 sq ft of business space and a nursery, while the second phase comprised 195 homes and around 21,528 sq ft of commercial space. The third phase created 350 student bedrooms plus 4,306 sq ft of commercial space, with the fourth phase delivering 124 homes and 4,844 sq ft of commercial space.
