The final land plots owned by one of Britain’s most prestigious 20th century developers of council estates are to be sold at auction.
Davis Estates, a housebuilder which rose to fame in the late 1930s for designing and building spacious council houses and which exhibited fully-constructed show homes at the Ideal Home Exhibitions from the 1940s to the 1970s, has instructed Network Auctions to begin the sale of its final land assets in its December auction.
Eleven plots of land in locations throughout the south of the UK will be sold under the hammer with guide prices starting at £1,000 after the housebuilder ceased trading following the death of its owner.
The plots of land include many sought-after locations, including Godalming, Surrey; Oxford; Leatherhead, Surrey; Tunbridge Wells, Kent; Christchurch, Dorset; Stevenage, Hertfordshire; and Lewes, East Sussex.
“In the main, these are the residue of housing estates that were built many years ago,” said Toby Limbrick, a director at Network Auctions. “We expect quite a few investors and speculators to see the real potential in some of these lots and who may be able to squeeze a dwelling in.”
The land plots will be among 61 plots being offered by Network Auctions at its final sale of the year on 5 December at The Westbury Mayfair Hotel, Conduit Street, W1.
