The Shard, SE1, has secured a new record office rent for the London market outside the West End with a deal on its 26th floor.
Zurich-based financial technology firm Leonteq Securities (Europe) has taken 15,912 sq ft at the 72-floor landmark, paying in excess of £90 per sq ft.
Leonteq is moving from 100 Wigmore Street, W1, taking a 10-year lease.
After the latest letting, the skyscraper is now nearly a third let to occupiers new to the capital (see graphic), while the bulk of occupiers have relocated from the West End and Midtown.
The rent agreed tops the £90 per sq ft recently secured at British Land’s Leadenhall building, EC3, though lower floors at the Shard continue to be marketed at between £60 and £85 per sq ft.
The 920,000 sq ft skyscraper is now 80% let, with 180,000
sq ft remaining.
It is the Shard’s eighth letting confirmed this year, and takes the number of occupiers at the London landmark to 23.
Of the occupiers new to London, 7.5% are entirely new to the UK, 13.5% are regional occupiers and 9% are brand new companies.
Other occupiers in the Shard’s office space include broadcaster Al Jazeera, Italian drinks brand Campari and Tiffany & Co.
The Shard is owned by the State of Qatar and Sellar Property Group, and managed by REM.
