A property at the centre of a compulsory purchase order spat between Tottenham Hotspur FC and a local landlord has been damaged in a fire.
The London Fire Brigade said six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a blaze at Archway Sheet Metal Works, N17, today (Tuesday).
The business, which owns around one acre on the footprint of Spurs’ proposed new 58,000-seat stadium, has refused to relocate, jeopardising the plans intended initially for delivery by 2017.
A CPO was passed through but the company is challenging it.
“Half of the two-storey building’s ground floor and the whole of its first floor were damaged in the blaze. Thankfully there were no injuries,” said the London Fire Brigade.
A spokesman for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club added: “We have provided access to our facilities and CCTV footage as part of the fire brigade’s investigation into the cause of the fire. There is no evidence of the cause at this stage and it is wrong for anyone to speculate or comment further until a proper review of the situation has been carried out.”
