A massive blaze is raging at a waste recycling plant in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, close to where the Buncefield oil depot explosion took place in 2005.

According to the BBC, eight fire engines are battling to put out the fire at the premises of Hollywell haulage company on the Maxted Close industrial estate. Nearby buildings are being evacuated.

The blaze comes two years after the Buncefield explosion badly damaged Hemel’s nearby Maylands Business Park – one of the largest business parks in the eastern region.

Around 350,000 sq ft of office accommodation was destroyed and another 200,000 sq ft needed urgent repairs,

Planning consultant Llewelyn Davies Yeang Associates has drawn up a masterplan for the future development of the park aimed at retaining existing businesses forced to other accommodation following the explosion.
