Fire-testing of cladding starting

Fire-testing of cladding used on the outside of high-rise apartment blocks is expected to start today.

The Department for Communities and Local Government has told councils to submit for testing samples of cladding from properties above 59ft or 18m in height with aluminium composite material.

DCLG permanent secretary Melanie Dawes said that while the exact reasons for the speed of the spread of the fire at Grenfell Tower had not yet been determined, there are additional tests that can be undertaken with regard to the cladding.
