The government’s Help to Buy scheme has been extended for two years, a decision that is likely to reignite debate over its role in the housing crisis.
More than £8bn of taxpayers’ money has already been pumped into providing Help to Buy equity loans, which have helped in the purchase of more than 169,000 properties since 2013.
The scheme was due to end in 2021 but the government confirmed yesterday that the loans would be available for an additional two years.
