Fish! delivered to Birmingham’s Mailbox

Fish! is to open its first restaurant outside London at Birmingham’s £100m mixed-use Mailbox development.

The contemporary eaterie is paying a rent of £100,000 pa on a 418 sq m (4,500 sq ft) canal-side unit, on a 25-year lease. Work has already started on site and it will be trading from October.

Tony Allan, chairman, of Bank Group Restaurants commented on the outlet’s regional debut: “Our investment at the Mailbox demonstrates our confidence in Birmingham’s continued growth as a place to eat, drink and relax. Birmingham has undergone renaissance in recent years and there’s growing demand for a wider range of restaurants in the city.”

Fish is the latest in a string of London outlets, including Petit Blanc and the Bank, to open restaurants in the UK’s second city.

The Mailbox is the conversion of the former Royal Mail sorting office and has already attracted high-profile occupiers such as Malmaison, Days Inn Hotels, Christian Lacroix, Shogun Sushi & Noodle Bar, Society Cocktail Bar and Iceberg. Crosby Homes is also building 200 luxury apartments at the scheme.
