Hammerson’s Eastgate Quarters and Allied London’s Clarence Dock are among the locations under consideration to win Leeds’ large casino licence.
Leeds council has announced that it has received five “stage one” applications for the large casino licence.
Operator Global Gaming Ventures has applied to bring the casino to Eastgate Quarters, which is subject to major retail-led development plans. London Clubs Leeds has applied to open the casino at the existing Alea Casino site at the waterside Clarence Dock development. Mike Ingall’s Allied London took control of Clarence Dock earlier this year and is planning to revive it as a leisure destination.
Developer Rushbond has also bid to bring the casino The Majestic, its redevelopment of a landmark former nightclub, to City Square.
Grosvenor Casinos is aiming to secure the licence for the G Casino at Quarry Hill and Leeds United Football Club is aiming to bring it to its Elland Road stadium.
The council said that applicants must advertise their application in a local newspaper and site notices must be placed at the proposed location.
Stage one applications are likely to be considered at a hearing in July. The second stage of the process is expected to conclude in spring 2013.
