Five developers vie for Crawley town centre revamp

Bidders were battling it out this week to be shortlisted for the £500m revamp of the north of Crawley town centre.

British Land, Land Securities, Grosvenor, Development Securities, Hammerson and Westfield were all interviewed by the council this week.

ING Real Estate Management and Liberty International’s Capital Shopping Centres are also keen to be involved in the 1m sq ft project.

Centros Miller and Kier Property, which initially showed interest, both declined to bid.

The redevelopment of the 35-acre site must include 730,000 sq ft of shops, 400 homes and 200,000 sq ft of office space.

A shortlist is expected to be announced next week. Bids from the shortlisted developers will be expected by the end of June, with a preferred developer chosen in July.
