Five shortlisted to develop fifth ‘Millennium Village’

English Partnerships and Telford & Wrekin council have shortlisted five developers for Englands fifth Millennium Community, at East Ketley, Telford.

The five shortlisted are: Bryant Homes, Countryside Properties, George Wimpey, Redrow and Westbury.

They have been invited to submit detailed proposals for the 377-acre (35ha) brownfield site close to the centre of Telford. It has been earmarked for 800 houses, community facilities and a primary school.

The Millennium Communities Programme, initiated in 1997, focuses on developing energy-efficient, environmentally responsible housing schemes.

Peter Murray, area director for English Partnerships, joint sponsor of the project with the council, said: “The Millennium Communities initiative successfully integrates high-quality, affordable homes with good communal facilities and low environmental impact. The idea is simple but effective and we believe that East Ketley provides an excellent opportunity for illustrating the benefits of this approach.”

Jones Lang LaSalle is advising EP and Telford & Wrekin council.
