Flexible working most important for Gen Z

Flexible working is a deciding factor for young employees in choosing whether to accept a job or look for a new one.

Research by Kantar found that 86% of “Generation Z”, aged 18 to 24, and 85% of millennials, aged 25 to 39, said flexible home working policies are one of the main factors they consider when deciding whether to accept a job.

This compared with 66% of boomers, aged 56 to 75. The online survey of 7,985 employees across eight countries, including the UK, was conducted in January.

About 85% of all employees surveyed said they were satisfied with their employer’s remote working policy, with satisfaction rising with the degree of flexibility on offer. Only 6% of employees aged under 25 believe their employers are not offering sufficiently flexible working policies, but 63% of those workers are looking for a new role as a result, compared with only 30% of boomers.

But even though the youngest generation place higher value on the option of working from home, they are slightly more likely to come into the office than their older colleagues.

Generation Z workers said they wanted to spend an average of 56% of their working week at home compared with 60% among millennials, 58% among Gen X, who are aged 40 to 55, and 63% among boomers.
