Turnover in the flexible workspace market rose 13% to £765m in 2016 as centres continued to shrink and become more efficient, according to the latest Business Centre Association report.
The report, which included serviced offices, managed offices and light industrial workspaces, showed that turnover per sq ft rose 18% from 2015 while the amount of space taken per worker fell by 8% annually between 2013 and 2016.
Jennifer Brooke, executive director at BCA, said: “Brexit has not and could not have stopped the pace of technological innovation or stemmed the ever-increasing aspirations of customers for higher quality space and more responsive service from our members.”
While the average number of workers has risen from 209 to 243 per centre since 2014, flexible workspaces have got smaller, scaling down from 420 sq ft per occupier in 2015 to 328 sq ft in 2016.
The average number of desks in serviced offices has also fallen, from 228 in 2015 to 209.
