Folding bike firm plans factory on stilts

Brompton Bicycle has unveiled plans to build a new factory on a flood plain in Kent.

Although, technically, it will be above the flood plan, as the Ashford site will be built on stilts.

The folding bike manufacturer said it would soon submit a planning application for its new global headquarters located on a 100-acre wetland site. Brompton will work with Ashford Borough Council and Quinn Estates to complete the project by 2027.

Brompton said the development could cost up to 50% more than building another shed-style factory like its present headquarters in Greenford, west London, which will operate until 2030.

It said the new factory would provide an opportunity to restore the wetland and would promote walking and cycling for the local community in Ashford.
