Folkestone for the Flintstones – locals attack housing plans

Plans for 1,000 homes in Folkestone have come under fire from locals, who say they resemble a set from The Flintstones.

The development is the latest phase in the regeneration of the Kent coast town put forward by Roger De Haan, the heir to the Saga holiday empire.

His Folkestone Harbour Seafront Development Company has already secured planning permission for the height and mass of the proposed buildings at the harbour and along Marine Parade, but residents have been left baffled by the detailed designs.

One comment read: “Welcome to Bedrock. Yabba dabba doo.”

But the designs have been defended by Duarte Lobo Antunes, one of the lead architects at A Is For Architecture, which designed the towers. “I rewatched The Flintstones and I did not see anything as cool as what we have,” he said.

Other locals have compared the designs to termite mounds, doner kebabs and piles of poo.
