Food and drink manufacturers, who are already struggling as a result of price cuts at supermarkets, could see the situation worsen further if Aldi and Lidl – which get most of their stock from abroad – capture their targeted share of the UK market.
The number of such manufacturers suffering significant distress rose 94% last year, with small- and medium-sized companies accounting for 1,267 of the total 1,414 companies, a survey by Begbies Traynor showed.
