Footfall down 1.1% in July

Footfall fell by 1.1% in July, as shoppers were deterred by storms and rainfall, figures from the British Retail Consortium and Springboard show.

Trips to high street stores fell by 2.1%, while visits to shopping centres were down 1.3%, falling for the fourth month in a row.

The lower footfall translated into a weak sales performance for stores in non-food particularly, BRC chief executive Helen Dickinson said.
