A house for sale in Limetrees Close, Stockton-on-Tees, may well deserve the claim of being the cheapest in Britain.
The house has a guide price of just £5,000 and will be auctioned in Leeds this week; the last two houses to be sold in the street fetched
£8,500 and £9,000 respectively. Land Registry figures show the average price achieved last year for properties in the street was £16,714.
The sale price is not helped by the area’s reputation. The house is situated
near the chemical works, and a neighbouring property was the subject of an arson attack two years and has remained derelict ever since.
