Ford announcement on future of Halewood awaited
An announcement from Ford is expected this morning on a diminished role for its Halewood plant on Merseyside. There had been speculation the plant would close but Ford is expected to allay fears that all car assembly there will end. It is expected to tell workers that Escorts will no longer be built at Halewood from 1998.
General Motors is investing more than £100m in manufacturing facilities at Luton, Bedfordshire.
