Ford is seeking £75m of government aid for a new vehicle to help keep its Halewood plant open, on Merseyside, after 2000.
Andreas Whitham-Smith, in The Independent, says there has been a lack of the kind of political leadership that secured the expansion of Manchester airport. He uses the Manchester example to contrast with the gloom of the situation facing Ford workers.
