Former Battersea boss recognised in New Year’s Honours list

The former chief executive of the Battersea Power Station Development Company is among the real estate figures recognised in the King’s New Year’s Honours list. Simon Murphy has been named an officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to real estate, heritage and to the community in London. He stepped down from his role at Battersea Power Station in March after 11 years working on the regeneration project. Murphy said he was “surprised and delighted” by the recognition. “The restoration of Battersea Power Station and the surrounding area, delivering the Northern Line extension and creating a new community for London and more than 6,000 jobs, was an incredible effort by everyone involved,” he said. “This honour rewards that effort, persistence and ingenuity and is for all of Team Battersea and our Malaysian shareholders, without whom none of this would have been achieved.” Joining Murphy on the list were Springfield Properties chair Alexander Adam, for services to the construction industry in Scotland; former TH Real Estate chief executive and Crown Estate board member James Darkins, for services to the public sector; Sally Fenton, the former head of the built environment innovation team at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, for services to net zero innovation; and Paul Hudson, a planning adviser in the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, for services to town planning. Paul Brickell, the former executive director of regeneration and community partnerships at the London Legacy Development Corporation, was recognised for services to the regeneration of east London, while Christopher Katkowski of Kings Chambers was honoured for services to planning.
