Former director sues Berkeley Group

Nick-Simpkin-THUMB.jpegNick Simpkin, the former finance director of Berkeley Group, has commenced legal proceedings against the company.

The company’s annual report reveals that Simpkin, (pictured) “has issued legal proceedings against the company arising from his employment and its termination”. Berkeley said it was “defending the proceedings with the assistance of external legal advisers”.

Simpkin had his employment terminated on 24 September last year and issued proceedings on the company on 12 December last year and 25 June this year.

He is on gardening leave for the 12 months from the date of the termination of his employment, during which time he will receive £452,000 in remuneration including a £335,000 salary. According to the company report, he is not eligible for a bonus due to his termination.

Richard Stearn joined the company in April to take on the role of group finance director. He was previously with the company between 2002 and 2011. Before rejoining Berkeley Stearn was with Quintain.
