Former Hammerson UK and Ireland managing director Mark Bourgeois has started his own firm, specialising in “discrete” strategic and operational advice on mixed-use urban portfolios.
Bourgeois has launched the practice, called Velement Real Estate Advisory, after six months of gardening leave. He noted that demand has increased among organisations for advice that complements their in-house resources.
The practice will work with listed and private developers, UK and global institutions, private equity, lenders, local authorities and occupiers. Its main focuses are on asset and development strategies, “bespoke” projects including advice on debt and dispute resolution, and corporate services.
“It’s clear to me that urban real estate is more dynamic and challenging than ever,” Bourgeois wrote on social media. “The cost of living crisis and the war in Ukraine have exacerbated the disruptive effects of Covid and technology, further accelerating the structural shifts across sectors and geographies.”
He added: “I’m excited about embarking upon a more plural existence and looking forward to helping clients optimise property performance and enhance the capabilities of their operating platforms.”
Bourgeois formerly led Hammerson’s UK and Ireland business for nearly five years, before his departure last year.
