A masterplan to develop 716 homes on the former Jackson’s Brickworks site in Newton Heath, Manchester, is likely to be approved next week.
Your Housing Group subsidiary Nuvu submitted a hybrid planning application for the redevelopment of the 47-acre site, which has been vacant since the 1990s.
Phase one of the redevelopment, which will involve the remediation of contaminated land, includes 134 flats and 244 houses, as well as a four-storey community hub with a ground floor containing more than 6,600 sq ft of commercial space.
The hybrid application also requests outline planning permission for phase two, which would include 338 houses and a secondary school with places for 1,050 students.
The houses across the masterplan, located within the Miles Platting and Newton Heath ward, range from two to four bedrooms, with 250 homes designated for shared ownership, 180 for affordable rent, 53 for social rent, 180 for private rent and 53 for open-market sale.
The council’s report said: “The proposed scheme offers an opportunity to bring forward a sustainable development of family housing, affordable homes, and a new school on a site long identified as meeting the needs of the city.
“The scheme would incorporate public realm in the form of pocket parks, a community park, and landscaping along the canal towpath, together with improved access to the towpath for pedestrian and cyclists.”
Nuvu Developments was advised by firms including Deloitte, PlanitIE and Barton Willmore.
