Shell has appointed Foster and Partners to investigate a possible redevelopment of the Shell Centre, on London’s South Bank, which could span millions of square feet.
The oil giant is keen to make the best use of any surplus space on the 5.5-acre site.
Shell does not want to bulldoze the building but it is believed one of its options could be to build an iconic high-rise tower. CB Richard Ellis and DP9 are also advising on the plans.
Land Securities is among developers thought to have approached Shell about getting involved.
