Barry Allen, the founder of Savills’ Birmingham office, has retired after more than four decades in the real estate business.
Allen founded the agency’s Birmingham team in 1998, and ran the regional department for nearly 20 years.
He oversaw the growth of the office from four people to one of Savills’ largest outside London. It is now led by Simon Farrant (pictured, right, with Allen).
In the development arena Allen built a 20-person cross-sector team in the Midlands, and was named Property Personality of the Year in 2017 by the West Midlands Insider.
Allen will continue to provide an advisory role, working with Savills’ head of development in Birmingham, Andrew Galloway, until the end of the year.
Richard Rees, managing director of Savills UK, said: “We cannot thank Barry enough for his commitment and loyalty to the Birmingham office and Savills wider development team over the years.
“He has left a positive legacy and many clients showing a tremendous loyalty to the firm, and we wish him the very best for his retirement.”
Allen said: “It has been a privilege to have played a part in the dynamic growth of Savills in Birmingham since four of us started it in 1998.
“It has been a brilliant company to work for and I hope I have played my part in both its current status and providing a platform for its future success.
“It is now time for the next generation to take the business to the next level – but I am looking forward to maintaining links and support on some key jobs.”
