Fours arrests in property VAT fraud case

Four arrests have been made in connection with an alleged tax fraud using real estate transactions.

A HM Revenue & Customs investigation into an alleged VAT repayment fraud engineered through land and property sales in Derbyshire has resulted in four people from the area being arrested.

Peter Hollier, assistant director of criminal investigation for HMRC, said: “One of our key priorities is to identify the abuse of our tax systems by dishonest individuals who are stealing vast amounts of public money for their own gain.”

The accused, aged between 40 and 47, were arrested on 12 December on suspicion of stealing an estimated £700,000 through tax evasion.
