Foyles takes first store outside London in decades

Britain’s largest independent bookshop Foyles is to open its first store outside London in 70 years.

The retailer has signed a deal with Land Securities and Hammerson to take a 5,500 sq ft store at their Cabot Circus shopping centre in Bristol.

It will be Foyles’ sixth branch and is scheduled to open in March.

LandSec managing director for retail Richard Akers said: “It’s a sign of great confidence in Bristol to have the first Foyles bookshop outside London in decades. It also reflects Cabot Circus’s growing reputation as the South West’s premier retail and leisure destination.”

Foyles recently opened a store in the City of London at One New Change, EC4.

Its flagship store is on Charing Cross Road, WC1. Its other bookshops are at the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank, in St Pancras International and in Westfield London.

Foyles was founded in 1903 by two brothers – William and Gilbert Foyle – and has been trading for more than 100 years.
