Book retailer Foyles plans to exit its store at Land Securities’ City mall, One New Change, EC4.
Foyles is to close its 1,300 sq ft store in April when its short-term, 15-month lease expires.
The retailer said it is closing its “booktique” store to free up resources for its shops at Westfield Stratford City, which opens in early November, and Cabot Circus in Bristol.
Foyles opened in One New Change last October when the 550,000 sq ft mixed-use development launched. The Jean Nouvel-designed building comprises 220,000 sq ft of retail and leisure and 330,000 sq ft of offices.
Foyles’ chief executive, Sam Husain, said: “Our temporary shop at One New Change has been an incredible learning experience. We knew that 1,300 sq ft would not be big enough to do justice to our range, and we therefore only committed to a short-term lease, expiring in April next year. Our newest shop in Westfield Stratford City is a much larger space which will allow us to play on our strengths of range and expertise.”
