Former Land Securities chief executive Francis Salway has been appointed to help Transport for London deliver more than 10m sq ft of new developments.

Salway who stepped down from the REIT in 2012, has been appointed chairman of a new non-executive property advisory group being assembled by TfL commercial director Graeme Craig.

The appointment comes as TfL and the mayor of London launch a search for a developer framework panel to aid 50 new redevelopments.

Around six partners will be sought by the end of 2015 for the panel, which will compete for sites with scope for around 9,000 homes, shops and offices.

In his eight years in charge at LandSec Salway oversaw development of some 8m sq ft of development projects, including One New Change in the City.

Steve Allen, managing director of finance at TfL said: “Francis is one of the most respected people in commercial property, and he will bring a wealth of practical experience to TfL as we embark on an ambitious programme of property development.”

London mayor Boris Johnson added: “The ambitious plans to redevelop some of TfL’s land and assets presents a fantastic opportunity to support this important work and ensure public land creates homes for Londoners.”
