Fraud Squad officers arrested disgraced former Etam property director Bob Sutcliffe last week.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Fraud Squad said that an allegation had been received from Etam and was under consideration.
“On Friday December 12, the Fraud Squad officers arrested a 47-year-old man from Slough. The man has been bailed to return to Holborn police station on March 4 1998 pending further enquiries,” he said. No charges have been brought.
Sutcliffe and his wife Caroline were ordered in April to pay interim damages to Etam of £1.658m in a civil case brought by the retailer to recover the proceeds of a £2.5m.
The judge in the civil case told Etam’s legal adviser to pass its evidence to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
