Freeports plan could create “a lot of losers”

Plans to create ten freeports after Brexit could create “a lot of losers”, government advisers have warned.

The rollout of the low-tax zones around selected sea and airports was put at the heart of the prime minister’s post-Brexit vision for the country.

However, since being set up six months ago, the freeports advisory panel has only met once, with advisers fearing that it could distort markets, and may only be a political gesture intended for just ten sites.
