Network Rail and Bloc Group have launched a public consultation over plans to redevelop land around Northampton train station.
They plan to turn an existing car park into a multi-storey car park, hotel and new housing development, saying the current use of the area meant it lacked vibrancy and the proposals would deliver a “new gateway into Northampton”.
The residential development and hotel are intended to bring more people to the station area, helping to stimulate the local economy and facilities around the station.
The car park, to be built in the first phase, will increase the amount of parking and improve the capacity for people to travel by train.
Network Rail’s Chris Byrne said: “We know there have long been calls for better parking at the station and with the railway at the centre of this redevelopment we believe it will encourage more people to make long-distance journeys by using the greenest form of public transport and encourage passengers to make more sustainable travel choices.”
The consultation runs until 28 October.
