Property developer FreshStart Living is set to turn the historic Trafford Press building in Manchester into more than 100 affordable flats.
The £9m development on Chester Road will provide 116 one-, two- and three-bedroom flats in five blocks ranging in height from three to six storeys. There will also be 6,200 sq ft of commercial space on the ground floor and 117 parking spaces.
FreshStart acquired the Trafford Press site after it had stood empty for more than five years and fallen foul of previous failed developments. The properties are being targeted at the buy-to-let market, and more than 80 of the flats have already been reserved by investor landlords.
Martin Ellerby, design and acquisitions director at FreshStart Living, said: “The conversion of Trafford Press is an exciting opportunity to save a unique piece of Manchester’s industrial heritage, and will help to breathe new life into the Old Trafford neighbourhood.
