Funtington fun for Whiteheads

The star lot at Whiteheads’ Chichester auction held in November was Funtington Hall, at Funtington, West Sussex. It was one of six lots in an auction that provoked some lively bidding and raised £539,188.

Funtington Hall is a listed Queen Ann building built in about 1708 with later additions. It has retained several period details including oak panelling and an Adams staircase, as well as Venetian leaded-light windows. The freehold building, which has planning consent for formal conversion into flats or into a nursing home, was sold with full vacant possession for £350,000.

At the other end of the residential scale, a terraced dwelling-house at 4 Dukes Row, Cootham, Pulborough, caused the biggest surprise, selling for 50% above its reserve price. The freehold on the residential investment, realising £756 pa, sold for the unexpected sum of £33,000.
