Furlong Homes plans £30m Thames Gateway scheme

A £30m high-density mixed-use scheme (pictured) in the Thames Gateway, next to
the River Roding, has been granted planning permission this week in the first stage of a comprehensive redevelopment of Barking’s Abbey Road area.

The scheme by housebuilder Furlong Homes will comprise 184 apartments, of which 25% will be social housing, and a 5,000 sq ft (465 sq m) canoe club.

The 3.2-acre (1.3ha) site forms part of a derelict industrial estate and has been zoned for comprehensive regeneration by Barking council.

It also forms part of the Thames Gateway development area. Construction will start later this year and will last for approximately three years. Furlong intends to market the homes as Docklands-style apartments.
