Gala Casinos bets on Bradford

Gala Casinos is set to open the UK’s second-biggest casino at Gallagher Developments’ £40m Leisure Exchange in Bradford.

The 42,500 sq ft Gala casino will open in October, as part of a national expansion by Gala ahead of the proposed deregulation of the UK gambling industry. Parliament is expected to approve a Bill drastically relaxing gambling laws by 2005. The bill will permit unlimited slot machines in large casinos and end the “permitted area” restrictions presently imposed on casino developers.

The 250,000 sq ft Leisure Exchange stands close to the proposed Broadway shopping centre in Bradford city centre. Existing occupiers include a 120-bedroom Express by Holiday Inn, a 28-lane Hollywood Bowl and a 16-screen Cineworld. Restaurant chain Nando’s is due to open there next month.

Knight Frank in Leeds is the agent for the Leisure Exchange.
