Galliard Homes has made its first move into the Birmingham residential market in a tie up with Apsley House Capital.
The jv has bought a site in the city’s Southside district, with the potential for 385 apartments.
Galliard is the second major London-based developer to make a move into the city this year, with Berkeley announcing a new division, St Joseph, to focus exclusively on the city earlier this year.
The current car park, between Pershore Street, Hurst Street and Claybrook Street, has been bought without planning, on a long leasehold from the Gooch Estate.
Will Jordan, Associate at Knight Frank, commented: “Galliard Homes’ first investment in Birmingham is a real mark of strength for the city, proving it is an attractive prospect for leading developers.
With Southside already a popular residential address and neighbouring Birmingham Smithfield due to undergo huge redevelopment, we believe this scheme will be the catalyst for further local investment.”
Pennycuick Collins acted for the vendors, Knight Frank for Galliard and Apsley.
