Game Group loses rent appeal

The Supreme Court has rejected Game Group’s appeal over having to pay £3m of rent while the company was in administration.

British Land, Intu, Hammerson and Land Securities took the video game retailer to court over the unpaid bill.

The verdict effectively closes a loophole allowing companies in administration to trade for three months without paying rent if administrators were appointed the day after the ‘quarter rent’ was due.
