US-based fashion retailer Gap plans to open at least 50 new stores across the UK, France and Japan over the next two years.
Banana Republic, the group’s upmarket brand, will open its first store in Tokyo this autumn as the group continues to expand in the Asia Pacific region.
Next year Gap will start exploring what opportunities there may be for growth in the Chinese market.
Gap is also preparing to launch a fourth brand alongside Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy – that will target women aged 35 and over. Two stores will open in the US this autumn. A name for the new store has not yet been announced.
Stephen Sunnucks, former chief executive of New Look, was today appointed as president of Europe for Gap International. He will report directly to Gap International president Andrew Rolfe.
